Scarves make a strong statement
It has a mind of its own and oozes style with a capital S. The catwalk is giving enough signals for the return of the scarf with designer labels Donna Karan, Louis Vuitton and Stella McCartney endorsing this versatile piece of cloth for the spring summer season.
“A scarf can completely transform the attire. When I slip into jeans and a white shirt, it looks fine but the moment I throw in a scarf, the glam quotient increases to the maximum,” says model Tupur Chatterjee. Scarves do have a long fashion life, remember how the LBD and the scarf helped to create Audrey Hepburn’s iconic style in Breakfast at Tiffany’s? And who can forget Jackie Kennedy who immortalised those Hermes scarves.
Jump to 2011 and you have every fashionista flaunting a scarf like never before. “Highly recommended is a metal clasp at the end a la Louis Louis Vuitton scarf collection, it is getting a thumbs up from fashion pundits. The shade card is diverse, from bright to subtle hues, while abstract prints are also in vogue. The way you style a scarf can reflect your style sensibilities,” says designer Ayan Sarkar.
