Pastel colours liven up summer palette
Setting a whimsical tone for the look this summer, candy- coloured pastels have dreamily drifted into closets and store racks. Be it chiffon dresses with floaty cotton candy pink skirts or ruched drapes in icy blue or mint green hues, runways have been converted into a 50s fairyland.
“Nudes hues, which were the staple look for spring, can also be seen peeking out from behind pastel eyelet lace or as separates such as skirts, trousers and accessories. At Ruxsim, the entire colour palette was inspired by rainbow swirls and sprinkles and ranged from peach, candy pink and dusky lilac to ice blue and blushing nude,” says designer Simrit Tiwana.
Fashion this summer, has tuned into being very lady-like and romantic. Pastel shades and ruffles therefore can’t be missed in your summer wardrobe. “First impression which pastel colours give you is of a very fresh and resolute season, with an optimistic approach to contemporary fashion. We definitely suggest you to go in for florals and ruffles in pastels, which are sustainable, ephemeral, natural and will give you a very easy look,” says Rohan Bhargava of the brand Muah.
A predominance of pastels, floral motifs and ruffles make this season’s trend instantly wearable. It’s all about the mix. The delicate and romantic trend gets a dose of raw appeal with textural elements. Minimal details, pleats, ruches and drapes add an edge to sophisticated fabrics such as silk, satin and chiffon. “A fragile romantic look in chiffon’s swirl around in pastel shades and soft silhouettes and gets dramatic by strategic layering. The all skin-tone-friendly palette ranges from khaki, rose and sandy beige to nude. White and fleeting lilac pastels make this palette a summer delight,” says designer Shyam Narayan Prasad.
The trends for this season, many style gurus say are inspired by food and spirits like ice-creams, washed out nutmeg, peach, grey with icy blue, creamy cognac and beige.
“Coupled with the fact that these work beautifully with florals and ruffles they are a perfect cut for the summer and makes any collection more enduring. Ruffles are feminine, trendy and always a classic,” say designers Rimple and Harpreet Narula.
