Easy breezy
All my friends seem to be on a hunt for the summer dress. With temperatures soaring everyone seems to want to look cool in a breezy dress. It is holiday time for most, as children break up for vacation and people are either choosing a beach holiday or a city break. Either way, a dress is the quickest and easiest way to look chic and with-it.
Just throw in a pair of heels and you are set. No fuss with matching a top to a bottom and accessorising with belt, scarf and so on. So I decided to check out the high street for available options.
Zara had the most amazing long python print dress with a long, long slit up the front. It was super stylish and would look drop dead gorgeous on a woman with ultra-long legs. It had the option of wearing with a belt or without. It had a fluid style and did not have any restrictive seams.
Due to the huge colour blocking trend, there were a splash of colour in the form of solid green, red or fuchsia dresses. All over floral prints, however dated they may be, have a new freshness to it every season. And in a simple A-line sort of cut they always seem to work. As the shop-floor sales girls pointed out, the floral dresses are the first to sell out. It is a winner with all age groups.
Karen Millen has a medley of printed dresses in bold colours. L.K. Bennet has done simple gathered dresses in a midi length in tonal colours. Coast has tunic type dresses and they seem to specialise in wedding/bridesmaid dresses in pretty prints. Warehouse, French Connection and Jane Norman all have huge selections of cuts and styles. All the windows scream summer. And dresses make a prominent mark.
Low back dresses with lace have made a huge comeback. It is that Valentino-inspired look which is timeless and classic and works well as a summer option. Chiffon tribal print dresses too are huge for summer.
I cannot seem to understand why huge stripes are so ‘in’. Especially horizontal stripes on maxi dresses. I always thought horizontal stripes were unflattering for a woman’s figure but with its popularity in high street, it must have a market. Super skinny girls whose legs go on forever, I guess, might make the ideal customer.
