It’s a cheap life

Wednesday’s attack by a 23-year-old student on his female friend, both belonging to the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University, gave me goosebumps. The boy tried to kill his friend with a cleaver right inside the classroom, before killing himself by consuming rat poison, just because they had a heated argument. The fact that a young boy could so easily attack his friend took me back to 1999, when model Jessica Lall was shot dead in a fit of rage in a Delhi bar. Only one question comes to mind: has life today become so cheap that it can be extinguished without thought?
