Decor that packs in a punch
While food remains the deal breaker for any restaurant, the interiors come a close second. If warm interiors can’t heat a plate of cold food, then even mismatched tabletops and peeling wallpaper go a long way in spoiling the taste.
Here are some happy-go-lucky and quirky interiors of restaurants in the city.
All American Diner, IHC
Theme: As the name suggests one of the first restaurants to bring vintage American memorabilia in the city, this one complements its food, which is mostly American fast-food fare, with its settings. Metallic posters of soft drinks and cigarette lighters will tug at your heart strings as a Betty Page look-alike playfully gives you company over the order.
Olive Bar and Kitchen, Mehrauli
Theme: Old-Haveli-in-the-desert-turned-into-a-resort. A sight for sore eyes with its white-washed, sandstone walls. With plenty of foliage, but not enough to drop in your food, evenings are particularly pleasant here. The private dining area has a forest like backdrop with swaying trees behind the glass, that look particularly fetching at night. But ladies, whatever you do, do not wear heels as the pebble stone carpet is built to ruin your favourite pair!
The Yum Yum Tree, NFC
Theme: Classy-Indian-cum Oriental. This is not how you expect an Oriental restaurant to be and thank heavens for that. The paper dragons and lanterns are conspicuously replaced by a burst of pink with Baroque style flower and wine motifs. The place has a luxurious yet intimate feel, with huge windows and billowy chandeliers. The sushi conveyor belt takes tiny portions of fish to whoever chooses to pick them.
Italia, DLF Place
Theme: Alternates between sparkly Italian to cool Tuscan. One thing that doesn’t escape your notice here is the shininess and not in an off-putting way. The brass totem in the centre gives it a sparkly grandeur; one associated with refined mafia bosses (the fact that both are Italian helps of course!). Hanging lamps focusing on your food are great visuals for all. And the expansive terrace overlooking the big road, replete with sun umbrellas, makes it a happy place to eat at.
