Youth set bike on fire over car scrape
A 28-year-old man working with a foreign exchange firm had a narrow escape on Thursday night when a inebriated male and female youth in Honda City and a Swift cars assaulted him and set his motorcycle on fire on BRT corridor near Gargi College in south Delhi.
The police said the victim, Surya Kant, a resident of Khanpur, had grazed the Honda City car (HR26 AA4436) of the assailants near Gargi College, allegedly causing a minor scratch on the vehicle. The assailants chased and caught him near the Sri Fort red light crossing.
“They blocked my motorcycle with the Swift car blocking the way from behind and the Honda City in front. The assailants, who were five in number, then got down and started beating me. I kept begging them to spare me and that I would pay for the damage but they did not listen. I thought they were going to kill me. Then I ran towards a security guard of BRT, Hira Lal, who advised me to run away,” the victim told the police.
However, sources said the assailants then grabbed a can of inflammable liquid, poured it over the motorcycle, set fire to it and sped off.
“I tried to douse the flames but the bike was charred. In the meantime, the guard made a call to the police control room and a team of police arrived at the spot,” he said. The victim was taken to the Greater Kailash police station where a case under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341(wrongful restraint) and 435 (damage to property) of the IPC was registered.
