Youth guilty of killing prof. gets life in jail
A youth who murdered a 72-year-old professor a day before his birthday in an attempt to robbery was awarded life imprisonment by a sessions judge on Tuesday.
Additional sessions judge Narinder Kumar, after finding Mukesh and co-accused Vinod (still absconding) guilty of strangulating the bachelor professor V.K. Gupta has awarded life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.
The accused was also found guilty of committing robbery of mobile phone of the deceased, which was recovered from Mukesh after his arrest.
“In view of the aforesaid findings, this court hereby fines accused guilty of the offences under section 302 (murder) for his having committed murder of Professor V.K. Gupta, in furtherance of common intention, and also for the offence of under section 392 for his having committed robbery,” said the judge.
The deceased professor used to impart coaching at the Sachdeva P.T. College at Patel Nagar, during winter season he used to visit Hogg market behind Rajendra Palace.
According to the police, one of Professor’s student could not reach him over the phone and had went to Hogg market where he visited on a regular basis, when he was told by the shop owners that they haven’t seen him since a day or two. The student went to his apartment and found him gagged and tied to the chair. According to the report, the cause of his death was asphyxia.
