Women to get free bus ride Aug. 20
Women in the capital will be entitled to get a free ride on the DTC buses on the occasion of Rakhi. Delhi transport minister Ramakant Goswami on Sunday said that the city government will continue to provide free ride to women on Rakhi like every year.
“The DTC has been instructed to ensure free ride to the women in buses on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on August 20. The decision has been taken to provide safe and convenient ride to women,” chief minister Sheila Dikshit said.
The decision for free ride on Raksha Bandhan has been taken to ensure that women reach their brother’s home safely, Mr Goswami said.
“The female passengers will be allowed free travel in DTC Non-AC buses and cluster buses operating within Delhi or destined to towns in the NCR from 8 am to 5 pm on August 20. Free ride will not be available in AC and inter-state buses.
“Keeping in view the expected heavy festive rush of commuters on the day, DTC has also decided to deploy all buses and cluster buses for the convenience of passengers,” said a senior transport department official.
