Woman raped; accused tricks cop, escapes
A 30-year-old woman was raped at her outer Delhi residence on Thursday evening allegedly by a man who escaped from police custody when taken for medical examination to a hospital.
The police said the accused, identified as Santosh, a resident of Gorakhpur district in Uttar Pradesh, barged into the victim’s house on Thursday evening and allegedly raped her.
“The victim somehow managed to escape from the room after the incident and bolted it from outside and started screaming for help. Her neighbours rushed on hearing her screams and the accused was caught,” a police source said.
One of the neighbours informed the police control room and a team of policemen arrived at the spot and took Santosh in custody. The victim was sent for a medical examination which confirmed that she was raped and a case was registered against the accused.
“The accused was escorted by a team of cops to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital for mandatory medical examination. While the cops were waiting to get a form filled, the accused tricked a policeman on guard and escaped from the hospital,” the source said.
“A team is on his trail and he will be arrested soon. Action will also be initiated against the policemen if any dereliction of duty is established against them,” DCP (outer) B.S. Jaiswal said.
