Woman held for killing mother-in-law
The police has arrested the daughter-in-law of the 55-year-old woman who was hammered to death in Malviya Nagar area for her murder.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (south) P.S. Kushwah said, “The deceased Madhu had slapped her daughter-in-law Rachna and threw a slipper at her following an argument over food. In a fit of rage, Rachna took out a hammer and hit Madhu on her head, causing her death,” he said.
She then concocted a story that a man had come to meet Madhu and hammered her to death.
Madhu was found lying in a pool of blood in her house at Khirki Extension on Thursday.
Rachna also had injuries on left forearm and left foot. She told the police that a man came to their house attacked her with a kitchen knife and hit her mother-in-law with a blunt object on her head.
However, she gave different accounts of the event and doctors of department of forensic medicine opined that her injuries might be self-inflicted.
On sustained interrogation, Rachna broke down and allegedly revealed that she had killed her mother-in-law Madhu with a hammer. “She then ransacked the house to create a scene of robbery. She inflicted minor injuries on her left forearm and left foot with a kitchen knife,” said Mr Kushwah.
Rachna locked herself in her room and informed her husband, brother and mother, telling them her concocted story.
She also bolted the house of her immediate neighbour from outside to mislead the police.
