Woman held with firearm at IGI airport
A 42-year-old woman was on Sunday detained by the CISF and later declared arrested by the IGI Police for allegedly trying to carry a country-made pistol and a live cartridge while boarding a flight from the IGI airport. The accused, Vandana Kaushal, is a resident of Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
The investigating officers said that Vandana was about to board an Indigo flight to Mumbai when a gun and a live cartridge was recovered from her baggage during a security check, said the police.
Police officers said that Vandana failed to produce the pistol’s documents and a case was registered against her under the Arms Act. However, Vandana was granted bail by a city court for a surety of `10,000.
“On being detained, Vandana told the CISF personnel that she had lost the documents of the gun somewhere,” said the police. She pleaded the CISF officers to leave the gun with her as it is for her safety.
Investigations in the case are going on and Vandana has been asked by the court to stay in Delhi till the case is worked out.
