Woman forced to drink acid, dies
The family members of a 22-year-old woman, who died under mysterious circumstances on September 4, have alleged that she was forced to drink acid by her father-in-law.
A police team of the Sadar Bazar police station is looking into the matter. The victim’s family has also alleged police inaction in the matter.
According to information, the deceased was identified as Vandana, a resident of Central Delhi.
Vandana earlier lived in Azadpur area where she met Sunil and both decided to tie the knot.
The two got married in September 2010 and informed their respective family members. Vandana then started living with her husband at his paternal house.
Raju, the maternal uncle of the deceased, has alleged that on the day of Raksha Bandhan, Vandana visited her house to celebrate the festival with her brothers. She told her brothers that her father-in-law had demanded a motorcycle in dowry from her.
“Vandana’s father-in-law had told her to bring a motorcycle and not to return empty hand. Vandana’s family was unable to give her a bike. When she returned to her husband’s house her father-in-law was unhappy with her. On September 3, we got a call from hospital informing that Vandana was hospitalised after drinking acid. Her body had burn marks. On September 4, she died at the hospital,” said Raju alleging that she was forced to drink acid by her father-in-law.
The post-mortem of Vandana’s body has been conducted and the autopsy report is awaited.
No senior police official was available for comment on the matter despite repeated attempts to contact them in this respect.
