Woman dies of burns, kin allege dowry case
A newly-wed woman succumbed to burns at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital on Tuesday night with her family members alleging that she was killed by her in-laws for dowry.
The police said the incident was reported from Seetapuri area in southwest Delhi’s Dabri area. The victim, identified as Chandravati, 21, was admitted to DDU Hospital on Tuesday evening by her in-laws with severe burn injuries. She succumbed on Tuesday night following which the police was informed by hospital administration.
In the meantime, the parents of the deceased. who stay in Sector 14, Dwarka, were also informed. The father of the deceased told the police that Chandravati was facing harassment by her in-laws since she got married in 2007. “Her father and mother have alleged that their daughter was harassed and sometimes assaulted for not meeting their demands,” a senior police official said.
“On one occasion, she was thrown out of the house by her husband Dashrath Kumar when she refused to demand money from her father. Her in-laws refute the allegations. We are recording the statement of the families and probe is on. An SDM inquiry has been ordered into the matter,” he said. The post-mortem of the deceased was conducted and the findings are awaited.
