Woman, 65, drugged, robbed in city bus

A 65-year-old woman was drugged and robbed in a bus near the Commonwealth Games building in the heart of the city, police sources said on Monday.
The victim, Inderjeet Narang, a retired employee of Union health ministry, told the police that she had gone to State Bank of Patiala near Shastri Bhawan. “At around 3 pm, she boarded a bus from near the CWG office. She was probably drugged and robbed in the bus,” a police source said.

The incident raises serious questions over the security preparedness with just 19 days left for Games to begin. Sources said such incidents have been reported from east and north districts of Delhi occasionally but it is for the first time that such a case has been reported from the heart of the city.
The incident took place on September 8 and a case was registered on September 12 under Sections 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc. with intent to commit an offence), 379 (punishment for theft) and 34 IPC at the Parliament Street police station. Sources claimed that Mrs Narang was seated in a backseat of the bus and was probably drugged using poisonous fumes that cause a person to loose consciousness momentarily.
The victim regained consciousness as the bus reached Janakpuri and approached the police the next day.
“The victim can’t remember anything and is currently undergoing treatment. She told us that when she reached home, she discovered that her purse containing cash, bank cards and a gold chain that she wore were missing. She can’t even recall the bus registration number and it is not clear how the incident took place,” a senior police official said. A medical examination of the victim has been conducted the results of which is awaited for further investigations.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
