Withdraw FDI in retail, says Gupta
The Delhi BJP has boosted support to retailers in its opposition to the decision of 51 per cent FDI in Indian retail market. The Delhi BJP and thousands of traders staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar on Monday demanding that the Central government withdraw the decision on the FDI.
“If the government allows the foreign multi-brand companies to start trading and open showrooms, then the BJP workers will come out on the streets to oppose the anti-people decision,” said BJP Delhi president Vijender Gupta.
Senior BJP leaders Chandan Mitra and V.K. Malhotra also joined the protest.
“Crores of people will be rendered unemployed due to this decision of the government. This decision has been taken under the pressure of foreign companies and foreign governments. The UPA II government has told the 120 crore people of the country through this decision that it is working at the instance of foreign companies,” said Rajya Sabha MP Chandan Mitra.
Mr Mitra said that economy of China, Malaysia and Thailand collapsed just because they allowed FDI more than necessary.
