Winter classes in DU to cover loss: Duta
The Delhi University teachers plan to make up for the loss of the students due to the recent frequent protests by taking classes in the winter break.
“We are planning to take classes for 15 days in the month-long winter break in December to make up for the academic loss of the students due to protests. The examination dates will be revised accordingly in each college,” president, Delhi University Teachers’ Association, Aditya Narayan Misra said.
Besides, the science departments in Delhi University are worried about their research projects as the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board has denied the permission to let them use radioactive material in their research.
“We need radioactive material to teach many topics in Physics. It is really a matter of concern that AERB has denied permission to allow Delhi University to use radioactive material. The students will suffer and the reputation of the university too will go for a toss,” said Vinay Kumar Singh, a chemistry teacher and Duta secretary.
The AERB withdrew its permission in the wake of the Mayapuri incident that cost life of a worker and injured five others after they were exposed to scrap consisting radioactive material in March this year.
Duta continued its protest against the vice-chancellor Prof. Deepak Pental. “In the general body meeting, we unanimously agreed that the V-C should not continue in office as he has not got any such correspondence from the Visitor. Moreover, he has maligned the university’s reputation in the light of the Mayapuri incident,” said Mr Misra.
