Will appeal, says Shahzad’s sister
The family members of Shahzad on Tuesday said they were not happy with the court verdict and have decided to file appeal in the Supreme Court against the judgement. The family members further accused the Delhi police of falsely implicating Shahzad in the case.
Sifa Seraj, the sister of convict Shahzad Ahmad, said that the Batla House encounter was fake and all the accused youth, including my brother, were falsely implicated in the case by the Delhi police.
“We know that Shahzad is innocent and we will fight for justice till the end and appeal in Supreme Court,” she said.
Shahzad Ahmad, the suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist, was on Tuesday sentenced to life imprisonment by a city court.
Additional sessions judge Rajender Kumar Shastri handed down the life term to Shahzad for killing decorated police officer inspector Mohan Chand Sharma and injuring two other cops.
A number of people gathered at Shahzad’s house near Tedhia mosque in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and expressed solidarity with his family.
National general secretary of Ulema Council, Tahir Madni, said that he was not happy with the court’s judgment and will fight against it.
“We will fight against the judgment on two fronts — one in court and the other in people’s court by raking the issue in coming Lok Sabha polls,” he said.
Samajwadi Party MLA from Nizamabad, Alambadi said that if Shahzad was guilty he should have been given death penalty in place of life sentence.
