Walia gives nod to nephrology unit at GTB
Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (GTB) will have kidney transplant facility soon. Delhi health minister, Dr A.K. Walia, approved the project. A hospital official said that the project has been approved recently. “With the commissioning of nephrology unit, the kidney transplant will commence soon. This would make the hospital the first government hospital to provide kidney transplant facility,” the official said.
While inspecting the hospital, Dr A.K. Walia on Tuesday also said that commissioning of new 500-bed modern ward in Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital needs to be expedited keeping in view the congestion of patients in existing wards.
He instructed the PWD to complete construction of modular Operation Theatre and provide oxygen gas pipeline so that the new ward block could be commissioned at the earliest. He also instructed to commission the ward in parts, that is ward with around 250 beds be made operational within next month to overcome rush of indoor patients.
He instructed that the air-conditioners must be made functional. He underlined the need of a well developed Trauma Centre too. Dr Walia is said to be mooting expansion plans of the University College of Medical Sciences in the hospital campus.
