Wailing kid makes carjackers quit, leave car

Two carjackers robbed a car from a couple but were forced to abandon it after travelling a kilometre when the victim’s son left asleep on the rear seat woke up and his wails alerted policemen. The robbers left the kid and abandoned the car. The incident was reported around 11 pm on Saturday in Prashant Vihar area of outer Delhi.
According to the police, the victim Anil Kumar was going to meet his relatives in his Hyundai Santro car with his wife and three-year-old son. When he slowed down the car for a U turn in Aman Vihar, two men came in front of the car. Anil hit the brakes to avoid accident.
“Before they could understand anything the assailants overpowered Anil and his wife who was sitting beside him at gunpoint. The assailants pulled the couple out of the car and sped away. However, after travelling a few kilometres they found that the victim couple’s son was sleeping on the rear seat of the car,” said a senior police official.
Meanwhile, the boy woke up and started screaming on seeing strangers in the car. Few policemen standing on the roadside saw the car overspeeding. They immediately alerted the control room and a message was flashed to other districts also.
Anil also made a PCR call saying that some kidnappers had abducted his son.
In the fear of getting caught, the assailants dropped the boy at a traffic signal in Nihal Vihar and abandoned the car near Rithala Metro Station and escaped. The police later rescued the boy and recovered the car.
“We have registered a case at the Prashant Vihar police station and a team has been formed to nab the assailants,” the official said.
