Voting peaceful in JNU, DU; Dusu results today
Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University went to polls on Friday amid tight security. JNU witnessed 56 per cent polling while Dusu election witnessed a low turnout of 39 per cent. Voting began in Delhi University at 8.30 am and went on till 12.30 pm. The evening college students cast their votes from 3 pm to 7 pm.
DU’s chief election officer Ashok Vohra said that the election went smoothly with no untoward incident being reported. However, some technical glitches were reported with EVM machines at Khalsa College.
Mr Vohra said that 39.55 per cent students of morning colleges cast their vote.
Counting of votes in Delhi University will take place on Saturday.
There are 12 candidates in the fray for the posts of president and vice-president, 17 for the post of secretary, and 10 for joint secretary in Dusu.
Polling in JNU began at 9.30 am and ended at 6 pm. Chief election official Prof. Gyan Prakash said that as the polling in JNU is conducted with ballot papers, the results will be declared on Monday.
Eight candidates are in fray for the post of president, five for vice-president, six for general secretary and three for joint secretary in JNUSU.
Though, Students Federation of India and All-India Students Association are major players but NSUI and ABVP have also fielded candidates.
