Victim’s friends thrashed stalker

The investigation into the killing of Delhi University student Radhika Tanwar has revealed that she was stalked by a man some years back, whose identity has not been ascertained by the police so far.

The police on Wednesday questioned three men, Pankaj, Ravi and Aditya, all residents of Naraina village after it came to light that Radhika was stalked by a man few years back. “On one occasion, Aditya, one of Radhika’s friends, caught the accused red-handed and the trio assaulted him in front of Radhika’s family,” a source said.
However, when police tried to track the alleged stalker after questioning the trio, they were not able to ascertain his whereabouts. The police is now treating the stalker as one of the suspects in the murder. The questioning of the trio has yielded some information and they have been allowed to go for the time being.
DCP (south), H.G.S. Dhaliwal said, “The family members of the deceased are very cooperative and they have shared some relevant information which is being verified and developed. We are making an appeal to anyone who has seen the suspect to approach us. The identity will be kept confidential. Unfortunately, no eyewitness has come forward so far,” Mr Dhaliwal said.
The police said there were two PCR calls on Tuesday morning after the incident and a lot of passengers were standing near the body. “Not a single person at the spot stopped an autorickshaw to rush the victim to a hospital. When a constable finally arrived, even he had a tough time convincing drivers to rush the victim to hospital. There was a crucial delay of few minutes,” Mr Dhaliwal said. The victim died on the way to Safdarjung Hospital.
The investigations have also revealed that the girl used to exchange hundreds of SMSs with her friends on a daily basis. These “friends” are being tracked and called for questioning by the police to shed more light on the case. The police is also investigating whether the family was involved in any dispute which could have led to the killing.
