Vegetable price hike pinches Delhiites
After the massive hike in the price of petrol, vegetable prices have also shot up in Delhi and the NCR. In the recent hike last week, prices of almost all vegetables shot up from `5 to `20 per kg.
Making a hole in your pocket is the price of onion, which was `20 per kg last week, but is now available at `30 per kg. The price of tomatoes have been also hiked from `25 per kg last week to `30 per kg. Potatoes have also joined the league and the price has been hiked to `20 per kg to `25 per kg. Apart from these, prices of all green vegetables have been hiked up to `5 per kg.
Restaurant owners has tightened their belts and indicated a hike in the menu if the situation does not improve.
“We have decided to increase `5-10 on every food item we serve. The recent hike has forced us increase the rates,” said Satinder Gulati, a restaurant owner of east Delhi. Suffering from continuous inflation from every sector, the housewives of Delhi are accusing the government for this. “The loan rates have already been hiked, prices of milk and petrol are sky-high and now as the hike in the price of vegetables. The ministers must know a middle-class family is suffering from the massive inflation,” said Akriti Kochar, a housewife. Working women criticised the government for the recent inflation. “Living in a metropolitan city is going to be very difficult for us. If we can’t survive, then we will have to go back to our villages,” said Mansi Sharma, an MNC employee. Some housewives said that they have started avoiding costly vegetables for their kitchen.
“The vegetables are so precious that I am avoiding it. I am using alternatives for tomato as well as onions. We used to make salads from onion but now I am using carrot and radish as a substitute,” said Tripti Singh, a housewife.
