UGC NET exam disrupted after ruckus
The UGC NET examination at Kirori Mal College on Sunday was disrupted after candidates gathered there and created ruckus alleging that they were provided “wrong venue” by the coordinator.
While students complained that they were unable to find their roll number on reaching the venue, University Grants Commission (UGC) said “students mistakenly noted down the wrong venue for the exam”.
The principal of Kirori Mal College said the list of venue was uploaded by the college a week prior to the exam. However, some students who noted the wrong venue arrived at Kirori Mal College centre and insisted that they be allowed to appear in the exam.
“The students created pandemonium at Kirori Mal College centre, forcibly entered the examination halls and snatched examination sheets from the students writing the exam,” the statement said.
UGC secretary and bureau head of NET exam reached the venue on receiving complaint and assured the candidates to conduct a fresh examination within a month.
“Considering the larger interest of the students in mind, UGC has decided to conduct exam for NET afresh for all such candidates of Delhi centre who could not write NET exam due to confusion of venue or disruption at Kirori Mal College,” a UGC statement said. Officials said they were working on the number of students affected.
Besides, the recruitment examination for education officers, which was also disrupted, will be held afresh for the Delhi region.
Piyush Datta who reached KMC at 8.30 am said, “I went to KMC, the coordinating college, to find out my examination centre as it was not updated on website. I called up the school (examination centre) in Rohini but they said that there is no UGC NET exam being held there.”
Another candidate started crying after reaching at the “wrong venue”.
However, of KMC principal said that the college had updated the 79 examination centres in Delhi, 10 days before the scheduled examination date.
Kirori Mal College was the only Centre for the Delhi region for this exam.
Around 8 lakh candidates had registered for the UGC-NET exam for lectureship and junior research fellowship.
