Twitter posts express rage over verdict
After the Juvenile Justice Board awarded the maximum punishment of three years’ imprisonment to the 18-year-old youth, who was a minor at the time of the December 16 gangrape-murder and said to be the “most brutal” of all six accused, disappointed the Twitterati which expressed anger over the punishment and the law not being sufficiently strict.
“In a ghastly open and shut case like that of Delhi gangrape, law needed to be dynamic to give justice to society as a whole via the victim! (sic)” tweeted Kiran Bedi.
Actor Anupam Kher tweeted, “Just 3 years in reformatory home 4 an unimaginable crime. Wah re mere desh ka insaaf aur kanoon. I m ashamed of our system. (sic)”
“The juvenile should get life sentence for his heinous crime as one of the most brutal rapists in India.” wrote Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen on the microblogging website. “Truly disgusting.” said music composer Vishal Dadlani.
“3 years only because he was a juvenile? he deserves life imprisonment if not death penalty for such a heinous crime,” tweeted Tejas Deshpande.
“Disgusting justice & will provoke more juveniles for rape crime (sic),” said Arun Bang. “The Court Verdict will only ENCOURAGE other Juvenile Minors 2 RAPE (sic),” said another tweet.
