TV sets go blank prior to verdict
As the verdict on Ayodhya was being readied to be pronounced by a Lucknow bench of Allaha-bad high court on Thursday, the denizens in many areas saw their TV screens suddenly turning blank.
The broadcast of television networks in many areas across the city, which are deemed “sensitive” by security agencies, was barred from Thursday afternoon. Many people complained to the Delhi police, inquiring whether the orders for restricting the broadcast was given by the police.
“My television suddenly turned blank. I thought it was due to some fault. But when I inquired from my neighbour, he was facing the same problem. The entire neighbourhood was receiving no signal,” said Aatish Nisar, a resident of Jamia Nagar in southeast Delhi’s Okhla.
“We received some complaints but no such orders were issued by the Delhi police. The problems could be of technical or local nature. However, elaborate security measures were taken to ensure that peace prevails in the city and no untoward incident happens,” Delhi police spokes-person Rajan Bhagat said.
Police sources said that the areas like Jandhewalan, where RSS headquarters is situated, Okhla, a Muslim majority area, and many areas in south and New Delhi district saw restricted broadcast of television to ensure that the situation doesn’t spiral out of control in case of an emergency.
