Trials for dedicated lanes from next week
Entering your vehicle in the proposed dedicated lanes for Commonwealth Games can result in a hefty fine. The Delhi police has introduced a special legislation to this effect.
This legislation stipulates imposition of hefty fines and impounding of vehicles which enter the over 200-km lane coming up on the extreme right side of major roads.
“To ensure strict implementation, we are considering a special legislation to impose heavy fines and impound commercial vehicles,” Ajay Chadha, Special CP (Traffic) said on Friday.
The authorities plan to convert 36 driving lanes as dedicated to Games and the traffic police will begin trials on certain road stretches in south Delhi from next week. Recently, Delhi lieutenant-governor Tejendra Khanna gave a go ahead to the plan. “The dedicated lines will be set up between the airport and the Games Village near Akshardham Temple and between the village to competition venues,” said a senior traffic police officer.
Several measures like setting up of CCTV cameras on entry points of dedicated lanes are being planned to prevent entry of other vehicles.
