Tout held with hockey final, closing tickets
After many allegations of malpractices and black marketing of CWG tickets being in the air and the Commonwealth Games set to draw to a grand finale in the capital, a man was arrested near Delhi police headquarters for allegedly selling tickets of hockey final match and the closing ceremony in black market.
The police said the accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar, a resident of Mandoli Extension. He was arrested some distance away from the police headquarters at ITO on Wednesday evening. The police claimed to have recovered 17 tickets of closing ceremony, gymnastics and hockey final from his possession. He was produced before a city court and has been charged under various sections of fraud and cheating.
Police sources revealed that a team of central Delhi police from the Daryaganj police station arrested Kumar after receiving a tip-off that he was trying to sell tickets to a group of eager sports enthusiasts who were willing to shell out extra bucks for watching the grand events of the Games.
“Five tickets are of `500 and 11 of `250 denomination. He was selling the tickets in the range of `3,000-5,000. During questioning, he revealed that he used to sell cinema tickets in black market earlier. We are not taking the case lightly, particularly in the wake of allegations of malpractices in the sale and distribution of CWG tickets,” a senior police official said.
This is for the first time that a tout has been arrested while selling CWG tickets. Earlier, the police had arrested two men and a women while they were trying to sell CWG passes in black market. The ticketing procedure of organising committee has come under scanner as people were unable to get tickets for watching the events.
