Tihar inmates clash on way to Tis Hazari
Four inmates of Tihar Jail were severely injured when a clash broke out between them while they were being ferried to Tis Hazari Court Complex in a bus on Monday morning.
Police officials said the clash broke out when a prisoner held on charges of robbery was being taken to Tis Hazari for court appearance. He got into an argument with a fellow prisoner over a trivial issue and soon turned violent.
“Since the two prisoners belong to two different camps, the other inmates in the bus clashed, resulting in a full-blown violence. The accused used blades to inflict injuries upon each other and the situation was brought under control only when the bus was stopped and the police personnel escorting them intervened,” a senior police official said.
Four prisoners suffered severe injuries in the clash and were taken to RML Hospital while others suffered minor bruises. Tihar officials were not available for comments despite repeated attempts. A case has been registered and investigations were on to ascertain the cause behind the violence, said the police.
