Tax notice to Asaram’s ashram

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation has slapped a property tax notice on Asaram Bapu’s ashram here for alleged non-payment of property tax since 2004 but refused to disclose the due amount.

An official said that the NDMC found commercial activities going on at the ashram spread over 3 acres. “On September 2, officials found ashram selling Asaram’s books, publications, ayurvedic medicines, dhoop, incense and religious material. Yoga Vedant Samiti, run by Asaram, at Upper Ridge Road was served notice on September 5 for non-payment of property tax,” the official said.
NDMS has sought land usage details from DDA and forest department regarding the ashram.
SDMC director of press and information bureau Mukesh Yadav said, “Asaram has a 15-20 acre ashram at Rajokri, another near Rajouri, and one in Dwarka Sector 22-23.”
