Student held for harassing woman
The Delhi police has arrested a law student for allegedly harassing a woman by uploading her phone number on a fake Facebook account with provocative photographs and soliciting friendship.
“The accused Shubham Kansal, 22, was arrested from his Dilshad Garden residence on Saturday under the Information Technology Act,” a senior police official said.
During interrogation, Kansal revealed that he and the complainant were classmates in a prestigious school. Kansal is pursuing his final year at a law school at a UP-based university.
“Kansal wanted to get close to the woman. However, things never worked his way. In February this year, he uploaded her mobile phone number on a fictitious Facebook account inviting everybody for friendship. He also juiced up the Facebook account with provocative photographs, due to which the victim started getting numerous unsolicited phone calls,” said DCP (crime and railways) Sanjay Kumar Jain.
When the victim enquired, she found out that her number had been uploaded on a Facebook account opened in some other woman’s name. She visited the account and found some raunchy and provocative photographs of an unknown woman on the page.
“Her phone number was given as contact number and the Facebook account displayed the invitation of friendship to all those interested. Totally harassed, in March the victim approached the crime branch,” DCP Jain said.
