Speeding car mows down man
A man in his 40s was mowed down by a Honda City car driven allegedly by a drunk youth on Sunday morning.
The accident occurred at Kabutar market area of Jama Masjid at around 2.30 in the morning. Eyewit-nesses claimed that a Honda City car first hit a Santro car and then climbed over a pavement where some beggars were sleeping, the police said.
“The speeding car bore a Delhi registration number. It climbed over the pavement and ran over a sleeping beggar. Later it crashed into an electric pole and came to a halt. The driver fled from the spot. The eyewitnesses claimed that the driver of the car appeared to be drunk,” said an official.
“The car is registered in the name of a Nai Sarak resident,” said the official.
Meanwhile, a 56-year-old housewife, Mithlesh, was strangulated to death in East Vinod Nagar area on Saturday, allegedly by her son Sunil when she refused to give him money for liquor. Sunil has been arrested by the police.
