Special task force to keep a check on dengue

With the monsoon season in full swing and construction and dug up pits all around in abundance, the menace of dengue is keeping the authorities concerned. The Delhi government has formed a task force that would keep a check on the spread of the disease. Already, the total number of dengue cases in the capital has crossed the 250-mark and it is only the middle of August. The dengue numbers continue to show up even past mid-October.

MCD officials have been maintaining that the number of dengue cases at this time of the year were more as compared to the corresponding period last year.
Delhi health minister Kiran Walia, however, told mediapersons that a keen vigil was being ensured to keep the spread of dengue under check. The officers from the Delhi government’s health department and the MCD have been asked to keep things under control. The three-member task force has two MCD officials. The minister, who held a meeting of the health department and MCD officials on Monday, said that she was monitoring the situation very closely. She added that the task force will also suggest measures on to how to check spread of the disease, besides taking care of other arrangements. The minister also said that the principal secretary (health) has been asked to coordinate the efforts on these aspects.
Meanwhile, the total number of dengue cases went up to 254 with 20 more cases being reported on Monday. The MCD has already has appointed an epidemiologist who will look after Jamia Nagar, where the outbreak of the disease has seen hundreds of people getting affected. The total number of fogging machines, particularly in the Commonwealth Games village, have been doubled. Preventing mosquito breeding effectively will go a long way in keeping the disease under control, said an MCD official
