Six arrested with fake currency
Six persons allegedly involved in smuggling of fake Indian currency and contraband from Pakistan, have been arrested by the special cell of Delhi police. The police has recovered `1.95 lakhs’ worth fake currency in the denomination of `500 notes, apart from one kg smack and 2 kg charas from the accused. Six mobile phones have also been recovered. One of the accused had been convicted in a drug smuggling case and sentenced to 14 years’ jail.
According to the police, the tip-off about this module had been received when the police began investigating the escape of three Pakistan-based militants, who had served their sentences, from detention centre while awaiting deportation on January 1, this year.
Those who have been arrested have been identified as Baldev Singh alias Sabbir Ali, 64, Anees Khan, 32, Arbaaz, 18, Jarnail Singh, 40, Sanaullah, 55 and Javed Ahmed Bhat, 40.
The police said Baldev, who was earlier arrested in a case registered by the directorate of revenue intelligence, had started smuggling after his release from the prison. Anees, his brother-in-law, too had been convicted on similar charges and was in prison since 1985 before being released few years ago. The two were in touch with operators in contraband and fake Indian currency based in Jammu and Kashmir, and western Uttar Pradesh.
