Showers cool, monsoon in two days

All the worries about the monsoon slowing down in its approach towards the capital were laid to rest on Sunday as showers across the city brought some good news to Delhiites Further, the weather office on Sunday said that the much-awaited monsoon is expected to hit Delhi within a day or two.
Delhiites got the much-needed respite from heat on Sunday with showers and cool wind causing the temperature to dip by over three degrees Celsius, turning the weather on the weekend quite pleasant. Rains and thundershowers in the city late in the evening brought further relief to the parched city.
Terming the rain as “pre-monsoon showers”, director of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), B.P. Yadav, said, “The monsoon is expected to hit the national capital and the neighbouring areas by July 5 or 6.”
He said the seasonal rains missed the onset date of June 29 this year while they had reached the city on June 30 last year.
Mr Yadav, however, said that first week of July was normal for the arrival of monsoon adding that this time, the monsoon has reached Delhi on time, putting all speculations to rest. “The southwest monsoon has revived. By the next three to four days, showers can be expected across the country. The monsoon in Delhi has not delayed, the usual time for arrival of monsoon is first week of July,” Mr Yadav said.
The minimum and maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded as 25.5 degrees and 33.0 degrees Celsius, respectively, both three degrees below the normal. Palam recorded an overnight rainfall of 29.9 mm, followed by Ayanagar 21.5 mm, Lodhi Road 16.4 mm, Safdarjung 15.9 mm and Ridge area 1.8 mm.
The weatherman has forecast that the maximum and minimum temperatures on Monday would hover around 34 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively. The sky would be partly cloudy with likelihood of few thundershowers.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
