Shooter knocks down cop issuing challan
In a bid to escape from getting challaned for using a mobile phone while driving, an international woman shooter knocked down a Delhi traffic police constable in south Delhi’s Govindpuri area on Tuesday afternoon.
However, the policemen at the spot chased and nabbed her metres away from the site of accident.
However, high drama unfurled at the spot when the accused, Pragya Rathore, an international pistol shooter who has won several awards, refused to come out of the car and even threatened the police personnel that her father-in-law was a top police official.
“A constable suffered injuries after being hit by the car and he was taken to a hospital for medical aid. But the woman refused to get out of the car and threatened to take action against the police personnel who had tried to challan her for using her mobile phone,” a source said. It was only when some women police constables were rushed to the spot that the accused was taken to the Govindpuri police station. The police then informed the family of the victim and a challan of `1,000 was issued and a case of rash and negligent driving registered against her.
The incident took place on Ravi Das Marg in Govindpuri at around 12.30 pm when Pragya, who lives in south Delhi’s upscale Khel Gaon area, was going to Karni Singh Shooting Range. Her father is a retired senior Indian Army officer.
“A traffic constable spotted Pragya talking on her mobile phone and signalled her to halt. She stopped but when the policeman told her that she was being challaned, she drove away knocking down a constable,” a source said. The car of the accused has been impounded.
