SHO, 5 cops suspended for Juvenile ‘secret jail’
The former station house officer (SHO) of the Vijay Vihar police station and five other policemen, including one head constable and four constables, have been suspended following the allegations that they were running a secret prison to confine juvenile offenders where they also allegedly sodomised few of them.
A senior police official said a departmental inquiry has been initiated into the matter and an FIR has been registered against them.
The official said the suspended policemen were identified as SHO (Neb Sarai) inspector Sunil Kumar (then SHO Vijay Vihar), head constable Lal Singh and constables Rahul, Rajkumar, Subhash and Akhilesh.
“Six juveniles (one was later found to be a major) were held in connection with a theft case. They were held in a vacant flat in Lal Quarter area. The police detained the juvenile to recover the case property,” said a senior police official.
The police said they took action following reports in media. Senior police officials were tight-lipped over the matter.
A police source said the policemen at the Vijay Vihar police station had acquired few vacant flats in the area and used to keep juvenile offenders there.
“It was there makeshift jail. They used to interrogate juveniles over there. Few juveniles have alleged that the cops snatched their money and also sodomised them,” said the source. Around eight to 10 juveniles were confined in the flat with their hand and legs tied.
The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights has formed a committee to look into the matter.
