Sheila releases guidelines to prevent child abuse
Every second child in India is emotionally abused, two thirds children are physically abused and 53.22 per cent are being sexually abused, said a Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) report citing government data.
Releasing the Guidelines for Prevention of Child Abuse formulated by DCPCR, chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday stressed on the need of proper implementation of rules to prevent child abuse.
“Children are the future and if we abuse them, ill treat them what would be the future society be like? It would be a traumatised society and the entire generation will become traumatised. We all want healthy children, both in body and mind to become the future citizens of our country,” she said.
Ms Dikshit said that mere guidelines are not enough.
“As society, we have to rise up to see what we are going to do with our children, Ms Dikshit said”
DCPCR chairman Arun Mathur said the guidelines have been put through a process of vigorous scrutiny to ensure that they are not in conflict with any existing laws.
