Sheila meets Scindia for curb on power tariff
Ahead of the Assembly polls in the national capital, chief minister Sheila Dikshit is trying to ensure a minimum attack on the pockets of Delhiites.
In a bid to control the rising power tariffs, Ms Dikshit met Union power minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday. It is understood that the CM demanded cheap power for Delhi and the issue of dues on discoms were also discussed.
“The NTPC owes around `700 crores to the reliance owned discoms BRPL and BYPL. Chief minister has demanded to make a plan which should not effect the residents of Delhiites,” said a source.
Meanwhile, sources said that the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) is likely to announce the revised rates of power tariffs by the end of this month. “The revised rates of expected to be apply from August 1,” he added. Though the Delhi power ministry has prepared a back up plan of enhancing the subsidy of `1 up to the slab of 400 units, but the discoms have sought a hefty hike in the power tariff citing losses.
“All of the three discoms —BYPL BRPL and TPDDL — has sought a substantial hike in the power tariffs citing the higher coal prices and losses in their accounts. The BRPL has demanded a hike of 13 per cent, BYPL has demanded a hike of six per cent while the TPDDL has demanded a hike of nine per cent,” he added.
