Sheila hurt by media criticism before games
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit is still “hurt” by the media criticism in the run up to the Commonwealth Games last year and said those who made the event a success must be given due credit. Addressing a private summit here, Ms Dikshit
recounted the days and said the criticism by the media that it will be “shame games”, was hurtful.
“The Games here have been described as the best-ever in CWG history. We did a very good job. Let’s pat ourselves for it,” she said, adding allegations of corruption in hosting of the Games are being looked into and those found guilty will be punished.
“I know there were mistakes. Things are being looked at and those responsible will be punished,” she said replying to a question. She said huge multiplicity of authorities also contributed to delays in CWG projects.
Asked whether Delhi should be given full statehood, she said the government has been ensuring overall development of the city despite various hurdles. She identified migration and increasing population as major challenges and stated that rising number of vehicles, which is around 70 lakhs now, has been putting a lot of pressure on infrastructure.
