Sheila Dikshit wanted to be a nurse
Had she not been a politician, perhaps you would’ve seen Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit nursing the ill at some healthcare centre. Ms Dikshit says she was so inspired by the life of Forence Nightingale that even she wanted to become a nurse.
“I was inspired by the service rendered by Florence Nightingale and I always wanted to become a nurse,” Ms Dikshit said, while speaking at the International Nursing Summit.
Florence Nightingale, who was a celebrated nurse, is best remembered for her work during the Crimean War and her contribution towards the reform of the sanitary conditions in military field hospitals.
“Nurses, who care for the ill, should be recognised for their exemplary performance and invaluable contributions to the quality of health care. We should institute an award to honour them,” Ms Dikshit said.
