Servants’ lawyer fears for his life

The counsel for three domestic helps, whose names had cropped in the investigations of the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case, has claimed that there was threat to his life. The three domestic helps —- Rajkumar, Vijay Mandal and Krishna — were earlier arrested by the CBI for allegedly killing Aarushi and Hemraj in May 2008, but were let off as the investigating agency did not find any evidence against them.

Naresh Yadav, counsel for the trio, said, “There is a threat to my life. The UP government and the Ghaziabad police will be held responsible if I am harmed in any way in the future.” He has written a letter to the UP chief secretary and state police director-general in this regard and requested that he be provided with security. He further added that the police, which had earlier provided him with a gunner, has now withdrawn him.
Mr Yadav further said that he is moving the court to seek compensation for the three clients. On the other hand, the family members of Hemraj, the domestic help, who was found murdered a day after Aarushi’s murder came to light on May 16, 2008, are facing serious financial and health problems. The son-in-law of Hemraj said that the latter’s wife is not able to work properly because one of her hands have stopped working. Also, Hemraj’s son has been suffering with a disease for the past year-and-a-half and has not recovered. Further, the family members of Hemraj say that they have been facing criticism from their own relatives, who believe that Hemraj was involved in something bad that led to his death. Recently, a special CBI court has ordered the investigating agency to book the dentist parents of Aarushi for murder, destruction of evidence and criminal conspiracy. The CBI had earlier filed a closure report in the court. Aarushi was found murdered in her parents’ house on the intervening night of May 15-16, 2008, while Hemraj’s body was discovered on the terrace a day later.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
