Schools have to give EWS quota: Sheila
Amid reports of private schools developing cold feet on giving admissions to the poor, chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday asserted that the guidelines for 25 per cent reservation of seats for economically weaker section (EWS) would be enforced.
Ms Dikshit said that it is mandatory for private schools to assign 25 per cent seats for the EWS category. She added that the government would consider taking action against erring schools. Delhi education minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said that if the schools want to operate in the city they would have to keep 25 per cent seats under the EWS category.
Ms Dikshit said that complaints against schools could be brought to the notice of the education department or the minister.
The city government is giving a monthly assistance of `1,000 to `1,300 per EWS student to the schools and would also take care of their needs of books and school uniforms.
