Scattered rains, chilly winds keep mercury down in city

Scattered rains accompanied by chilly winds and below normal day temperature kept Delhiites mostly confined to their homes on Sunday. Cold conditions have returned as rains and nippy winds brought down the maximum temperature to 19.5 degree Celsius, five degrees below normal.
On Saturday, the maximum temperature had dropped eight degrees below normal.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 12° Celsius, which is a notch above the normal, the Met department said.
The city witnessed scattered rains on Sunday after being drenched in showers since Friday night. The rain gauge has measured 7.9 mm in last 33 hours ending at 5.30 pm on Sunday.
Between 8.30 am on Saturday and 8.30 am on Sunday, the national capital witnessed 5.8 mm of rains. The city recorded 2.1 mm rain between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, the Met department said.
The weatherman has predicted a partly cloudy sky on Monday, with possibility of mist or fog in the morning. The maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 21° Celsius and 10° Celsius, respectively.

Speeding suv crushes 3-yr-old

A speeding SUV crushed to death a three-year-old girl in Mansarovar Park area in northeast Delhi on Sunday.
A senior police official said the deceased child Komal was playing outside her house when the speeding SUV crushed her. She was rushed to a nearby hospital by the driver of the SUV but doctors declared her brought dead. The errant driver of the car, however, fled from the hospital and is absconding. The owner of the car has been identified as Pankaj, a building contractor.
“We got a call about the incident at around 12.30 pm that a girl was crushed in D Block area by an SUV. Eyewitnesses said that the driver himself rushed the girl to the hospital after the incident but she had died by then. An FIR of rash and negligence driving and death due to negligence was registered at the local police station,” said the police official adding that a manhunt has been launched to nab the accused driver.
