Rs 45-lakh robbery in C.R. Park
In a daring daylight robbery, unidentified bike-borne assailants struck at the residence of a jeweller in Chittaranjan Park area and decamped after robbing cash and jewellery worth around `45 lakhs at gunpoint.
A police source said the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon.
The police source said the robbers took away `20 lakhs in cash and jewellery worth `25 lakhs.
The victim Ashok Kumar Rakyam, a resident of Masjid Moth, told the police that he runs a jewellery shop in the area. Ashok Kumar’s father runs a charitable trust which provides free education to poor children.
The incident took place at around 1.30 pm on Thursday when Ashok was at his residence. His father and domestic help Bablu were also present in the house. Ashok’s office is in the basement of the house.
“On Thursday afternoon, two persons came on a motorcycle and entered their house on the pretext of filling a form of the trust. Bablu, the domestic help of the victim, told them to stay outside till he gets forms for them. However, they accused overpowered Bablu and snatched keys from him. The robbers then locked Bablu, Ashok Rakyam and his father inside a room. The accused then robbed cash and gold jewellery kept at the house,” said the police official.
A police team rushed to the spot on getting information through a PCR call and recorded the statements of the victims. An FIR was registered at the C.R. Park police station.
“Four people were involved. Initially, two entered the house and overpowered occupants. Later, two others joined in with muffed faces and they collectively robbed of the house,” said deputy commissioner of police (southeast) P. Karunakaran.
