Robbers’ gang targeting old busted, 2 held
The Delhi police has busted a gang of robbers that used to target the elderly by hypnotising them and has arrested two of them.
The accused have been identified as Sartaz Ali, 50, and Sheru Hussain, 35, both from Thane, Maharashtra, the police said.
The duo used to pose as policemen and had allegedly robbed a retired principal in Malviya Nagar on February 18.
“They asked the victim to keep her jewellery in a polythene posing as police officers. Then they cleverly exchanged the polythene with a similar one containing fake items. All the gang members are from Mumbai and they used to come to Delhi twice a month by air and would stay at hotels in Nizamuddin and Paharganj,” DCP (south) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said.
The accused used to bring their motorcycles from Mumbai by train and after committing crime all of them except Sartaz and one member would go back by air.
“Sartaz would go back by train with the looted articles and motorcycles,” he said. The police arrested the duo from Madangir on Friday acting on a tip off.
“Sartaz has good knowledge of hypnotism. To earn money, he formed the gang with his associates. They roam all over India and cheat people by hypnotising them,” Mr Dhaliwal said.
