Robber arrested after shootout
The crime branch of the Delhi police arrested an alleged robber after a brief encounter in Ashok Vihar and recovered a sophisticated pistol and four live cartridges from him.
Additional commissioner of police (crime branch) Ravindra Yadav said the accused was identified as Shadab Qureshi.
ACP Yadav said that a team led by DCP Bhisham Singh got a tip-off that the accused Shadab Qureshi would come near Wazirpur Village in a black Skoda car. A trap was laid in Ashok Vihar area.
The accused stopped his car, came out and started walking towards the I-Block bus stand. When he was asked to surrender by the crime branch team he whipped out his loaded pistol and opened fire.
“Head constable C. Jugnu and constable Vipin opened two rounds fire from their service pistols and nabbed the accused,” said the police official.
Shadab Qureshi had a meat shop when he came in contact with one Magroob and started committing crime in UP. Qureashi has been involved in two dozen cases in the NCR.
“Qureshi had fallen in love with the daughter of one Hazi Shamshad. Hazi was against the marriage as Qureshi was poor. In order to earn quick money, Qureshi joined the gang of Magroob, Akbar, Kala and Vinod Gadaria and started committing robberies,” said the police official.
