‘Retirement age of teachers to be raised to 65 yrs’

With an eye on the Assembly polls, chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday said that her government will consider extending the retirement age of teachers serving in the Delhi government schools from 62 years to 65 years.
The retirement age of teachers in Delhi was raised from 60 to 62 years in 2006, subject to their fitness and vigilance clearance.
Ms Dikshit said the Cabinet will discuss the issue this week. She made the remarks after demands were made that the retirement age of teachers serving in Delhi government schools should be raised from 62 to 65 years.
“Master Bijender Singh said that the retirement age of teachers should be extended from 62 years to 65 years. We will discuss this issue in the Cabinet and I believe because we have made up our mind we will do it,” she said.

GZ’bad teen held for raping girl
Ghaziabad, June 15: A 16-year-old boy was held on Saturday for allegedly raping a minor girl at knifepoint in Vijay Nagar area here, the police said. The boy was taken into police custody after the 12-year-old girl’s parents lodged a complaint against him at the Vijay Nagar police station. The girl’s family lived on rent at the boy’s residence.
According to the police, the girl sleeping with her family on the terrace, got up at 4 am to go to the toilet. While she was going towards the lavatory, the landlord’s son dragged her to the bathroom and raped her at knifepoint.
However, the girl told her family about the incident following which they lodged a complaint. The boy has been sent to a juvenile home, the police said. — PTI

Rape accused commits suicide
Ghaziabad, June 15: A 23-year-old shopkeeper allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself after a case of rape was lodged against him, the police said on Saturday.
The deceased Abid, a resident of Loni, allegedly had a relationship with his neighbour’s daughter. He, however was married off to another girl in May.
Abid’s marriage upset his former girlfriend, whose father lodged a complaint of rape and assault against him, the police said, adding that the victim’s father Sabir was taken into custody.
Abid committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan in his acquaintance’s house in Premanagar Colony, the police said. — PTI
