Rains lash city, more expected

Delhiites witnessed a pleasant Independence Day evening as rains lashed out in several parts of the national capital. The morning, was, however, uncomfortably sticky with dignitaries and others at the historic Red Fort fanning themselves during Prime Minister’s address to the nation. At least 15 cadets and schoolchildren participating in the parade during the Delhi government’s Indepe-ndence Day celebrations in the capital fainted on Sunday due to the blazing sun and high humidity.
The maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 34.4ºC, average for this time of the season, and the minimum was 25.4ºC, a notch below average. The city in the 24 hours till 8.30 am received 62 mm of rain. From 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, 10.6 mm of rain was recorded, a Met official said. The humidity levels oscillated between a high of 95 per cent and a low of 69 per cent, the official said. The Met department said that there will be a cloudy sky on Monday and thundershowers or rains is likely to occur in some areas.
“While the maximum temperature will rise a little to settle at 35ºC, the minimum will be around 26ºC,” a Met official said.
