Rain, hail lash city, bring back chill
The city was lashed by record-breaking rains and hailstorms on Friday. The heavy rain adversely affected the traffic in many parts of the city in the morning hours.
According to the Met officials, the city had not witnessed such heavy downpour in the month of January since 2003 when a total of 15.6 mm of rain was recorded.
The Met department said that in last 24 hours starting from Thursday, the city recorded 21 mm of rain ending 8.30 am. In the last 36 hours, the weatherman has recorded 33.5 mm rainfall. Friday’s minimum temperature was recorded at 11.3 degree Celsius, four notches above normal and up from Thursday’s 9.7°C. The maximum temperature was recorded at 16.4°C.
Waterlogging due to heavy rain and hailstorm brought traffic to near standstill on Barapulla flyover towards NH 24, ITO, Vikas Marg and South Extension.
The weatherman has predicted mainly clear sky for Saturday. The minimum and maximum temperatures will be around 16 and seven degree Celsius, respectively.
