Power failure affects Metro to Gurgaon
The busy Jehangirpuri-Gurgaon line of the Delhi Metro was affected on Tuesday following power failure which left scores of passengers stranded. Train services on the 45-km-line connecting Jehangirpuri with HUDA City Centre in Gurgaon were affected after trains did not get power from their source.
DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal said that the train services on Line 2, Jehangirpuri-Huda City Centre, were affected because of the tripping of power supply from the Gas Turbine Power Station of Indraprastha power generation company. This company provides power to the Metro corridor at the New Delhi Metro sub station, added the spokesman.
The Metro services were reportedly affected reportedly for about 45 minutes after which the normal services were restored. Senior officials said that the power tripping took place at around 3 pm when trains stopped on tracks on the pre-dominantly underground corridor which lasted till about 4 pm. The problem apparently began with voltage fluctuation in the network. However, the officials denied that any trains were stranded in the underground section.
The officials said that about eight Metro trips on the Gurgaon line had to be cancelled due to the power failure. Another report stated that about 980 passengers were de-boarded at Chandni Chowk Metro station following the power tripping.
